Oh and now getting very excited about CMLF in New Orleans next week. Thunderstorms and temperatures in the hundreds, here we come.

Looking forward to hearing Ann Banfield talk to the French Linguistics audience and also to quizzing Biardzka on her work on reported speech in Le Monde. It will be interesting to see where this new work on (or against) orality will go.

French Studies

Loved the French Studies conference - catching up with those I've known for ages and meeting new friends, as well, of course, as some great papers. Was very taken with the linguistic landscaping projects that Robert Blackwood is working on. Looking forward to seeing more of his results...

There were seagulls.

News translation in the news

It's interesting to note that the subject of news translation came up on this week's On the Media on NPR. You can listen to the feature on their website and they are dealing with an other type of news translation next week.

Stay tuned...
